Favorite Coffee Table Books

MY TIPS FOR PURCHASING COFFEE TABLE BOOKS FOR YOUR HOME:

  • Choose what INTERESTS YOU, not just what looks pretty

  • Select books that will GRAB THE ATTENTION of your guests! Your friends will love to skim through books

  • Books are one of MY FAVORITE KEEP SAKES to bring home after I have traveled to a new place

  • A coffee table book is a perfect GIFT to give a loved one

  • Don’t be afraid of color! My home consists of mostly neutrals but books & art are the places to ADD BOLD COLORS into the mix

ONE - A perfect Mother’s Day present! I keep this MOTHER & CHILD book in Sterling’s nursery and I am always flipping through it when we are playing in her room.

TWO - Gift this to your your friend who loves fashion and travel! I’ve had this PLACES TO GO PEOPLE TO SEE book for years and I love how it adds color to my neutral living room palette.

THREE - I have been a fan of this artist for years so when I found out she was publishing a book, THE COLOR TEIL, I was so so excited to purchase! This one is definitely worth the purchase if you love abstract art.

FOUR - I featured this book on my blog several weeks back but I felt like it needed a re-appearance in today’s post. This NEW YORK TIMES CUSTOM BIRTHDAY BOOK is a great gift that will look beautiful displayed on your coffee table!

FIVE - This is a given for anyone who loves decorating! DOMINO, THE BOOK OF DECORATING will give you tips on how to decorate every aspect of your home.

SIX - I included this book because I love adding books to your collection that have meaning to you and your family. My husband and I visited NAPA VALLEY for our wedding anniversary last year so this book would be a nice addition to our collection.

SEVEN - I reference this book weekly for work! DREAM SPACES is a collection of Victoria Hagan’s simplistic yet luxurious design work.

SEVEN - I have had this book for years and I love flipping through it for fashion and design inspiration. TORY BURCH IN COLOR is constantly giving me ideas of how to introduce bold colors into a space!

Black and White Coffee Table Display

Happy Thursday! For this week’s post, I am sharing some of my favorite coffee table items to create a black and white centerpiece in your living room. Depending on the size, material and color of your coffee table, you could end up using a couple of these pieces or if you have an oversized table, all eight of these selections could give you the completed look! When decorating your table, the goal should be to create texture, depth and interest with varying shapes and items. Check out my top eight below to see how to best display them on your table!

Enjoy . . .

ONE - An oversized tray is one of my go-to items to place on a coffee table or ottoman. I have an oversized wooden tray that sits on my ottoman and I love how the wood introduces another material. This BLACK, WOVEN RATTAN TRAY will give your table a sleek and modern vibe. Stack a couple of books on this tray (#TWO and #SEVEN) and get a glass vase filled with moss (#THREE) to add height, color and texture to this display!

TWO - Oversized books can act as eye catching items to layer on top of your coffee table or ottoman. I often get asked how many books is enough and my suggestion is to always err on the side of more books! I prefer to stack them in groupings of two or three, stacking the largest book on the bottom and gradually getting smaller as they go up. For example, if you choose this VOGUE COVERS BOOK, stack a smaller book on top.

THREE - Moss is an easy way to add color and fresh greens to your coffee table display, without having the constant maintenance of a live plant. I suggest buying this BAG OF MOSS and displaying it in a clear glass bowl or vase. To keep the moss looking fresh, mist with water as needed.

FOUR - Place this BLACK AND WHITE BOX on your table for an added element. Most importantly, this box can hide away your ugly TV remotes!

FIVE - These COPPER BOWLS introduce metal to the monochromatic table setting and are the perfect place to show off any small decorative objects.

SIX - This wicker chain link is an added layer to top off your finished coffee table display. Below is a recent coffee table from my HARBOURTON ROAD PROJECT; on this table display, the white beads act as the finishing touch. Replace THESE WICKER CHAIN LINKS with the beads and you would have a similar, completed look!

SEVEN - Here’s another COFFEE TABLE BOOK that you can layer with #TWO. I purchased this book when it was first released and it’s a favorite of mine!

EIGHT - I’ve had a TIC-TAC-TOE set for yers now and it is always a favorite when guests visit. This wooden set will add warmth and interest to your black and white table display!
